JOB DESCRIPTION 

Reporting to the Mill Manager, the Processing Superintendent, Planer will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing activities related to the Planer Mill, Packaging Line and Barging Loading Facility. The incumbent will apply sound safety and business standards/practices to achieve operational goals of ensuring worker safety, optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximize profits. You are a highly motivated individual who recognizes the value of a team-oriented approach in the performance of this challenging position. You bring to the job an exceptional safety record and will play a key role with the team at Western Forest Products in reaching its safety, environmental, and performance objectives.

The Processing Superintendent, Planer is expected to participate in and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Key duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Foster a safety culture in assigned departments that fits with Western’s safety targets and goals
  • Monitor performance against established production and quality goals and take corrective action as required
  • Provide leadership and direction to assigned supervision and other team members
  • Identify and execute on opportunities to improve upon existing processes and procedures
  • Support new product development with operational and sales personnel,
  • Provide expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of identified challenges
  • Apply clear and concise communication
  • Exercise sound judgment

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  • Post-secondary degree Wood Products Processing, Engineering or Business Administration
  • A minimum 5 – 10 years’ supervisory experience in a lumber manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of planer mill and packaging units
  • Amongst your peers and those who report to you, you are considered to be a strong leader with excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated focus on safely increasing production and product quality through well thought out initiatives
