The Western Retail Lumber Association (WRLA) is seeking to recruit a collaborative, innovative and passionate leader.

The Position:

The President is the Chief Operating Officer of the Association and is expected to provide strategic and organizational leadership and direction to ensure the association develops, aligns and executes the WRLA’s Mission Statement, strategic direction and action plans. The position is located in Winnipeg, MB.

Reporting to the Board Chair and working closely with an engaged Board of Directors and committees, the President manages a professional staff to ensure there is a good understanding among all stakeholders to the current and future needs of the industry and its members operating within the framework of the not for profit sector.

Key Leadership Priorities

• Ensure innovation, operational excellence and continuous improvement and supports the WRLA brand

• Leverage the strength of WRLA Buying Show and Conference to benefit the members and the industry

• Develop and manage a best in class educational program

• Engage and leverage the talents of the professional staff and key stakeholders to help support the strategic direction

• Promote and manage the extensive WRLA Programs and Services

• Embrace technology throughout the association

• Effectively communicate the value proposition of the WRLA at regional and national levels both within the industry and in other sectors.

Qualifications

• University or College Degree

• Minimum 5 year’s progressive responsibility in the Not for Profit sector

• Strong business acumen to ensure financial stability

• Visionary with sound judgement

• Certified Association Executive (CAE) or equivalent

• Ability to develop collaborative relationships with Board, staff, and industry stakeholders

• Superior interpersonal skills to deal at all levels

• Ability to balance long term objectives and activities with daily operations

• Ability to engage a wider audience using print, electronic, and social media

• Excellent financial management skills

The WRLA is a not-for-profit organization established in 1890 and represents 700 Retail and 500 Supplier companies in the building supply industry throughout Western Canada including Yukon, NWT, Nunavut and NW Ontario. The WRLA offers a wide range of programs and services dedicated to enhancing each member’s individual business, and ensuring the industry remains a vital contributor to local, regional and national economies.
