Scotsburn Lumber Ltd. operates a highly modern Stud Sawmill at Scotsburn in northern Nova Scotia. We are assembling a list of potential candidates for the following position:

Power Engineer - Kiln Operator

This is a class 4 requirement which involves covering vacations and absences to begin with and will be of interest to an ambitious individual capable of broadening his/her skills through training and experience to advance in the Power Engineering trade.

This will be a full time position, combining hours between relief Power Engineering duties and yard laborer duties.

The successful candidate will hold as a minimum a Power Engineers (Standardized) 4thClass Certificate of Qualification.  Those who have successfully completed a 4th Class Power Engineer program at a Community College will also be considered.  The successful applicant will have a High School Completion Certificate and the completion of academic math and physics will assist successful applicants in trade advancement.  Training and practical experience with computer systems will be an asset. There may be a small amount of loader operation required.

In addition to the boiler requirements this position requires employees to become knowledgeable in the operation of steam drying kilns for lumber. This position will require the testing of moisture content of lumber, determining when the lumber is sufficiently dried and having the dry charge changed out with a green charge.  Employees in this classification work a 12 hour shift schedule.  S/he must demonstrate a positive work ethic and have the ability to work and communicate successfully in a team environment, with minimal supervision. Given the nature of this position, being adaptable to various work assignments and conditions is essential.  We are looking for a responsible individual, with a commitment to workplace safety and an ability to make decisions and work alone for extended periods.
