The Forest Management (FM) Team is a core part of our Policy and Standards Unit. The department is responsible for the development, maintenance and interpretation of the FSC Normative Framework (policies, standards, procedures) in the area of FM. 

The Scope:

You will manage the development and approval process of forest stewardship standards and support the development of other documents for the FSC Normative Framework.


The Role:

You will report to the Program Manager Forest Management and work closely with the rest of the team. Your task will include:

  • Managing the registration process of forest stewardship standards development groups.
  • Supervising and supporting forest stewardship standards development groups.
  • Conducting the technical evaluation of forest stewardship standards.
  • Representing FSC externally in technical and other fora.
  •  Additional tasks as agreed with your supervisor.

Your Profile:

Education and Training:

  • University/technical college degree in a relevant field (e.g. related to environmental, social or economic aspects of forestry).
  • Post-graduate degree is an asset.

Working Experience, Style and Skills:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in multi-stakeholder standards development processes; further experience in the forest sector; nature conservation or corporate environmental responsibility programs is an asset.
  • Extensive project management experience covering all three dimensions of responsible forest management.
  • Ability to give equal weighing to environmental, social and economic aspects.
  • Proven report writing skills.
  • Ability to read through, analyse and assess large documents with short timelines.
  • Good conflict resolution skills.
  • Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously a number of functions.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Fluency in Spanish or French is a plus.

Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:

  • Standard software packages (MS Office) and editing large documents with a mixture of software.
  • Database management platforms.

Communication Skills:

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills that contribute to cohesive team efforts and decision making.
  •  Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

Others:

  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, global team.
  • Experience in working in / with an NGO or Non-Profit Organization.
  • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC program by stakeholders around the world.
  • Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.
