Overview

Mission Statement / Objectives of the Function: The Policy Manager (Controlled Wood Implementation) is responsible for the planning, organization and coordination of the development, maintenance and consistent implementation of global normative documents for certification and accreditation in the core area of FSC Controlled Wood (CW).

Main Roles and Responsibilities:

To develop and implement the plan for and to coordinate the activities related to:

  • Implementing normative documents with the focus on the recently revised Controlled Wood Framework.
  • Developing, maintaining and reviewing normative documents with a focus on CW strategy development.

To plan and coordinate assigned work:

  • Developing the work plan and providing input to budget.
  • Ensuring work plan implementation and budget adherence.
  • Coordinating activities with Quality Assurance Unit, Chain of Custody Program and other FSC Units as well ASI, and certificate holders as necessary.

To determine the scope and to review communication, guidance and training materials related to assigned responsibilities.

To reply to information requests by stakeholders, such as certification bodies and others related to assigned responsibilities.

To represent FSC externally in technical and other fora.

Additional Tasks as agreed with the Program Manager (Controlled Wood). Execution of Discretionary Power: The position does not include any signing authority. Functional Attribution to Organizational Unit:

Formal and functional reporting: Policy Manager (Controlled Wood Implementation) reports to Program Manager (Controlled Wood).

Formal and functional supervision of staff:

Policy Manager (Controlled Wood) supervises no staff.

Qualification, Experience and Skills:

Education and Training: University degree in a relevant field (e.g. environmental studies, forestry or equivalent).

Working Experience, Style and Skills:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in one or more of the following: multi-stakeholder standards development processes, certification (including auditing), the forest sector/wood industry, or corporate environmental and social responsibility programs.
  • Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously a number of functions.
  • Solution oriented attitude to work.
  • Service oriented attitude to work.
  • Project management experience.
  • A strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to plan and organize work.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Spanish is a plus.

Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with: Standard software packages (MS Office).

  • Ability to facilitate interactive discussions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

  • Experience in working in / with an NGO or Non-Profit Organization is a plus.

Terms and Conditions: Location: Bonn, Germany.

Working Hours: Full time – 40 hours per week.

Duration of Employment: Temporary contract – 2 years (extension possible).

Starting Date: As soon as possible.

Travel: Sporadic travel is required.
