Years Experience Required:  The idea candidate must have a minimum of 20 years management experience. Candidates must have either wood pellet, OSB, particleboard, MDF or other primary wood processing experience. 

Description: 

The Plant Manager will oversee the people and the processes from raw material receipt through delivery to a port and ensure production meets the safety, output, and quality goals The Company has set, while maintaining operations within budget limitations. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide leadership and expertise for safety, quality and production at a 24/7/365 pellet mill.

  • Establish operational objectives and strategies for attaining goals and targets for meeting safety, quality/service and overall productivity improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety programs.

  • Organize and cross-train teams for maximum production flexibility.

  • Implement best practices from the wood yard to the rail yard.

  • Develop production schedules and assignments, making strategic decisions as necessary to alter programs when time or budget limitations are reached.

  • Assist Maintenance Managers in the repair and upkeep of all plant equipment to ensure minimal disruption to production activities.

  • Set the standard for the manufacture of high quality production with outstanding responsiveness to customer needs and concerns.

  • Monitor every stage of production, analyzing current methods and developing new ways to save steps, time and materials in order to reduce costs.

  • Make decisions regarding hiring, paying, evaluating, training, transferring, promoting, and terminating employees. 

  • Provide the necessary vehicles for communication between production staff and the various members of plant management to ensure a free flow of information for optimum operation, teamwork, knowledge, and enforcement of company policies.

  • Directly supervises the Safety Manager, Quality Supervisor, Production Manager, Maintenance Managers, and non-wood Buyer.   Indirectly supervises about 55 employees. 

  • This is a full-time position in a 24/7/365 operation.  Core work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  However, there is frequent overtime including weekends and holidays. 

  • Some domestic and international travel is required for this position.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college/university in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Mechanical.

Previous Experience:

  • At least 20 years of experience in a process manufacturing production environment

  • Five to ten years of leadership experience in a pellet mill operation

  • Technical and functional knowledge required

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.  Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

  • Must be able to prioritize tasks in a 24/7/365 operation

  • Excellent communication skills.  Must be able to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and peers.  Must have the ability to present information to the Board and public groups. 

  • Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, familiarity with SAP a plus. 

Compensation

Wage: $100-$175k/year depending on experience
