Role Description:

Reporting to the Planning Superintendent, the Planning Coordinator conducts forest management planning activities on Resolute Sustainable Forest Licences (SFL). The Planning Coordinator must be a Registered Professional Forester.

The Planning Coordinator is also responsible for the preparation of Annual Work Schedules (AWS), Annual Reports (AR), and other permits and approvals consistent with forest management planning requirements in Ontario, and maintaining an effective working relationship with Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry staff, area stakeholders, First Nations and other communities.

Primary Purpose:

To provide forest management planning services and support to the Wood Products Ontario organization to ensure a sustainable and economical supply of wood fibre to Resolute production facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure application of the highest Safety standards to achieve superior health and safety results in his/her area of responsibility.
  • As plan author, leads FMP process on Resolute SFLs, which direct all road construction, harvest, and renewal operations on the SFL area.
  • Lead role in Aboriginal, Public, and Stakeholder consultation associated with each FMP, including the dispute resolution processes.
  • Primary liaison with district MNR staff and MNR regional planning specialists regarding the development of FMPs and associated permits and approvals.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with local citizen committees, tourist outfitters, trappers and other stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted access to fiber.
  • Supports Resolute forest management certification initiatives.
  • Prepares AWS and coordinates AR submissions to the MNR.
  • Obtains all necessary work permits, cut approvals, AWS revisions and FMP amendments to carry out operations on an annual basis. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that planning information and records are maintained in support of MNR reporting requirements and forestry operations.
  • Works in conjunction with Forest Information and Production staff to ensure that information databases, and Geographic Information System (GIS) spatial coverages (including the Forest Resources Inventory) are complete and accurate.

Provide input and support to R&D programs to ensure that they promote sustainable forest management and continual improvement in the forest operation

  • Ensure application of the highest Safety standards to achieve superior health and safety results.
  • Advise operational staff on the application of guidelines and prescriptions included in the forest management plan.
