Our Crofton Division located at 8541 Hay Road, in Crofton, BC on Vancouver Island has an immediate opening for a permanent full-time Paper Machine Manager.

Reporting to the Manager, Paper Operations, you will be a leader with uncompromising safety standards and high expectations for yourself, your people and your peers. You will have a commitment to the principles of goal setting, accountability, involvement and respect, and you will be a driving force to improved performance and efficiency in the paper mill.

Your primary responsibilities in this important position will be to support the manufacturing operations in meeting safety, customer, cost, and productivity objectives. You will achieve these results through your leadership and guidance of the operations and maintenance groups involved with our paper machines.

You will contribute your experience and expertise to the areas of:

  • Leading your area safety program.
  • The development, supervision and implementation of the operation and maintenance plans that will ensure achievement of our Paper Machine production plan.
  • Ensuring that product quality from our Paper Machines complies with mill and customer specifications, and meets the needs of our product development strategies.

Your daily tasks will include:

  • Leading the Paper Machine 3 business unit (indirect supervision of 81 unionized personnel and direct supervision of two salaried staff)
  • Directing the planning, management and completion of several annual concurrent departmental goals and objectives
  • Ensuring safety performance and activities comply with Worksafe BC regulations and company policies and procedures
  • Prioritizing task and activities in alignment with the division's and company's strategic objectives
  • Providing information and action plans to the Paper Operations Manager on a timely basis to address variances to plan and progress to meeting annual goals
  • Coordinating and prioritizing maintenance activities for the business unit
  • Fulfilling responsibilities on internal committees as required

You will have the following qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible paper mill experience, including five years in a leadership/management role
  • A university degree in engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills, combined with effective communication ability
  • A proven track record of initiating sustainable change to improve the business in the key areas of safety, production, cost and quality
  • While your computer skills will certainly include the MS Office suite of products, familiarity with SAP and DCS systems would be an asset.

Compensation

The successful candidate will be entitled to the company extended health and dental program and pension plan, and a short term incentive plan. Relocation assistance is also available.
