Operations Manager (Management & Executives)

Hood Distribution is looking for an Operations Manager for its Louisville, KY facility. Hood Distribution is a wholesale distributor of hardwood lumber, plywood, moulding and related wood products whose customers include cabinet shops, millwork houses, retail lumber yards, and similar businesses.

This position reports directly to the Branch Manager and is directly responsible for the supervision of the drivers and fleet as well as the warehouse to include staff and equipment. Inventory management and procedural controls are major responsibilities of the position.

The successful candidate should have experience in warehouse operations, distribution, logistics etc. in wood products or related field. Specific knowledge of safe fleet operations and warehouse operations are essential. Forklift operator/trainer certification and short course hardwood grading school are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Candidate would work with inside and outside sales staff as needed to provide sales support and/or information, resolve special delivery issues, etc. Contacts customers by phone or may visit customer site to represent branch or provide or receive additional information.
• Locates sources for and purchases “non-stock” inventory items to accommodate individual customer requests, local building conditions or sale opportunities.
• Candidate would manage overall warehouse operations, including receiving, order processing, billing, checking, delivery and inventory management. Manages routine maintenance and necessary repairs on warehouse equipment, trucks, etc. Monitors costs to assure operations are within budget. Assures that stock is handled properly and rotated to minimize waste and damage.
• Candidate would provide supervisory guidance, coaching and training to center employees. Assure that all employees receive proper training and maintain their skills in equipment operation. Make all employees safety-minded. Assure that all drivers are properly licensed and trained and are observing safe driving and loading/unloading practices.
