Canfor’s tree seedling nursery, J.D. Little Forest Centre, produces 9 million conifer seedlings annually for reforestation throughout Canfor operating areas in B.C.’s northern interior.  The nursery is a modern facility located in Prince George, comprised of 24 glass and poly greenhouses along with cold storage facilities.

This is a permanent position and the successful candidate will be a team member of the Silviculture department within Forest Management Group.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the Silviculture team your responsibilities will include:

  • Promotion and maintenance of the nursery “Safety Program”
  • Preparing budgets and managing costs within your specific responsibilities
  • Recruitment, supervision and management of nursery growing staff
  • Manage USW collective agreements
  • Supplier and contractor management
  • Monitoring of forest seedling production
  • Monitor, develop, and review business requirements for seedling production to ensure continuous improvement
  • Achieve key performance measures by applying the principles of performance management
  • Capable of minor facility and equipment repair
  • Driving management of the facility to ensure cost competitive, top quality seedling production
  • Driving change to facilitate continuous improvement

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • Excellent leadership, communication & project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to work within a team environment
  • Capable of working independently, setting and meeting targets
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Excellent computer skills & related software knowledge including nursery applications
  • Good understanding of seedling physiology
  • Candidates must possess or be willing to acquire a 5th class power engineering certification

Preference may be given to those with experience with conifer seedling growing and greenhouse management.
