Natural Resources Summer Position (3):

Forestry Technician – Silviculture (term position) 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Bonaparte Indian Band requires (3) technicians to assist with silviculture projects in the St’uxwtewsemc traditional territory. Tasks may include

–          Slashing trees, brushing trees and shrubs, piling and burning

–          Falling larger trees

–          Grass seeding

–          Monitoring forestry practices

The Natural Resource department is a diverse department and the forestry technicians may also gain experience working in other parts of the department such as cultural heritage, fisheries, or wildfire research. Training will be provided on an as-needed basis

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be/have:

–          Interests and/or experience in forestry, natural resource management, or conservation

–          Ability to work independently and as part of a team

–          Ability to complete strenuous work outdoors in all weather conditions

–          Safety first mentality

Desired Qualifications

–          Valid BC Driver’s Licence;

–          Standard First Aid with transportation endorsement

–          Forestry training and/or experience is an asset,

–          Certified Falling certificate an asset,

–          S100 training an asset,

–          ATV training and/or experience is an asset,

–          Chainsaw safety certification is an asset,

–          Previous work experience with the BIB Natural Resources department is an asset

** Preference will be given to First Nations Persons** 

Length of Employment & Wage Range:

  • Length of employment: Approximately 1 month beginning in May-June, with possibility of extension or transfer to different projects
  • Wage : $18 – 20/ hour, depending on experience
