FrontCounter BC provides a range of services to the public and to other government agencies involved in utilizing and managing Crown land and natural resources. FrontCounter BC assists clients by coordinating access to tenures, permits, licenses, Crown land sales and grants for all the natural resource sector agencies. FrontCounter BC is a single window service for businesses and individual citizens seeking information and/or authorizations to utilize Crown natural resources. FrontCounter BC staff help navigate the application process from start to finish.

The Natural Resource Specialist provides front line service, based on full knowledge of various Natural Resource Agency and other agency’s legislation, regulations, policies and procedures to clients of the provincial government’s natural resource agencies. You will evaluate complex applications and prepare the application report package for further review and decision. In offices without a Senior Natural Resource Specialist, this position may be required to be the team lead for the program, provide supervision, advanced expertise, project management and leadership within the FrontCounter BC office. You possess the ability to draw conclusions on complex technical issues, using advanced analytical reasoning and judgement skills. You have strong written and oral communication skills, exercising professionalism, tact and diplomacy to industry clients, external agencies and management.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field and a minimum of 2 years’ related experience in a resource management related field.

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area.  (e.g., Association of BC Forest Professionals, BC Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists of BC).  Note: immediately eligible is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from another Canadian jurisdiction within 6 months of employment with the Ministry.
