Years Experience Required: 4 years minimum sawmill maintenance millwright experience preferred 

Job Purpose: Maintain and install mechanical systems at the plant.

JOB SUMMARY: To maintain, dismantle, and install machinery and mechanical service equipment.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs varied mechanical duties such as dismantling, moving, repairing and installing or repairing power shafting, pulleys, hoists, conveyors and other facility equipment. Starts up and shuts down equipment in line with company safety procedures for equipment under power and OSHA requirements.
  •  Install power drives in correct position, and align power shafts and pulleys.
  • Installs and/or changes the layout of machines and mechanical equipment in a facility. Uses blueprints, company 'Facility Layout' handbook, conforming with local building codes and safe operating practices.
  • Where required, erects scaffolding and disassembles upon completion of the job.
  • Depending upon the size of the facility, if no carpenter or painter is employed, carries out these trade functions. Makes crates to ship dismantled equipment.
  • Uses hoists, forklift truck, rollers or trolleys to move machinery. Frequently works with electrician or pipefitter to complete dismantling or installation jobs.
  • Makes or repairs machine guards and installs on machinery. Checks guards to assure that they have enclosed equipment properly.
  • Notifies supervisor of potential hazards and corrective action taken or documented.
  • Performs repairs on all equipment in the facility, including hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical equipment within state and local standards.
  • Performs cutting and welding tasks according to safety standards.  

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other duties designated by Lead Millwright and Maintenance Superintendent.   

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company training program to satisfaction of Maintenance Superintendent and Plant Superintendent.
  • Requires varying degree of working to precision tolerances where amount of damage can be considerable.
  • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and others.
  •  Performs heavy maintenance work involving climbing, rigging, and exposure to high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems in accordance with all company safety procedures.    

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and    procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.    

REASONING ABILITY: Demonstrate practical problem solving ability. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.    

COMPUTER SKILLS:  Strive to learn basic computer skills and understanding, with a focus on the Computerized Maintenance Management System.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing this job, the operator is regularly required to stand for up to 8 hours; occasionally may be required to stand up to 13 hours. 
  • Repetitively use hands for manipulation of pencils, pens, keyboards, tools, etc. 
  • Occasionally required to twist, bend, and lift up to 100 pounds. 
  • Continuously exposed to high noise levels, fumes, or airborne particles that require wearing ear protection, eye protection, gloves, and occasional use of small particle mask. 
  • Must be physically able to perform all aspects of the job safely and without a significant risk of substantial harm to him/herself or others.

  SUMMARY:

  •  Millwright is responsible for maintaining high levels of production through minimal downtime.
  • Work as a part of the KPI team to bring forth issues and resolve them through formal action planning.
  • Maintain a high level of communication between all members of the maintenance team. 

Compensation

Wage: $17 to $25/hour depending on experience. No relocation paid.
