JOB DESCRIPTION

Western Forest Products Inc. is seeking a Mill Administrator to join our Alberni Pacific Sawmill, located in Port Alberni, B.C.

Reporting to the Division Accountant, the Mill Administration position is generally the first point of contact for customers, vendors and employee inquiries. The Mill Administrator is primarily responsible for administrative duties associated with the operation’s Safety, Production, Payroll, Purchasing and Payables.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In all functional areas, data entry and data management associated with a WFP System is a primary responsibility of this role.

Production

  • Collect, collate and report on daily production, including log consumption, boom gear and by-products.

Purchasing & Payables

  • Responsible for issuing PO’s and associated data management.
  • Requisitioning and receiving goods and services.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivables and validations associated with goods and services.

Payroll & HR

  • Employee and visitor indoctrinations.
  • Security and Crew Scheduling and coordination with line supervision.
  • Time and Attendance Management Processes including time entry, approved leave scheduling, tracking and reporting on same.
  • Short notice Absenteeism Management and replacement workers.
  • Grievance Tracking and costing.
  • Union Recruitment and Training initiatives including maintaining training records and personnel files. 

Safety

  • Participate in all safety initiatives and indoctrinations, including providing monthly statistical reporting.
  • Data management of all site incidents or near misses.
  • WorkSafe BC reporting and coordination including managing Clearance Letters, Form 7’s and return-to-work programs.

Other duties as assigned to ensure that all business processes are auditable and supportive of a manufacturing facility and a publicly traded company.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Knowledge:

  • A demonstrated understanding of the USW/WFP Master Agreement and Local Agreements.
  • A demonstrated understanding of Time and Attendance and the application of Union Seniority.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be proficient with MS Office suite and database management, including a demonstrated ability to build spread sheets and provide value added reporting capabilities.
  • Accountable and organized with the ability to re-prioritize on an as needed basis.
  • Analytical thinking and the ability to work both independently and as part of a Team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills targeted at all levels of the organization.

Required Professional Designation/Certification:

  • A degree or certification in Administration or Business Management.
