JOB DESCRIPTION

Western Forest Products is seeking a Manager, Operations Planning for our Forestry team. This is a key leadership role reporting to the General Manager of Timberlands Planning and will be accountable for standardizing, simplifying and streamlining WFP’s operational planning department. The Manager will play a key role in implementing WFP’s sustainable forest management strategy.

As the Manager, Operations Planning, you will lead a highly motivated and skilled team of Forest Professionals across 5 operations in all aspects of forestry planning. The Manager will work closely with other leaders in the Forestry department to ensure that plans meet WFP’s high standards and align with overall business strategy and metrics.  The Manager will also work closely with Timberlands Operations Managers to ensure planning and harvesting activities are aligned.

The successful candidate will have a track record of leading change in a forestry department and will have the ability to bring people together and create a common vision. Extensive experience in planning is required, as well as in-depth knowledge of BC’s legislative and regulatory environment. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Align business units under a single planning process and organization structure to support the business functions of the planning department;
  • Develop metrics and targets for planning that will drive success;
  • Coach and mentor staff to achieve targets;
  • Ensure that all responsibilities for environmental management are met;
  • Manage staff to maintain standing timber inventory to established targets.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING:

  • Graduation from Forestry program at accredited school
  • Registered Professional Forester with the ABCFP
  • At least 15 years of Forestry and at least 10 years of progressive supervision or management experience

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • High level of organization
  • Expertise in managing people and leading teams
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an organization through business improvement and significant change.
  • Commitment to sound forest stewardship
  • High level of expertise in BC Forest Legislative and Regulatory environment
