Description: 

The Maintenance Supervisor (or foreman) will under general and intermittent supervision, manage all aspects of maintenance including day-to- day and long term SAWMILL, DRY KILN, BOILER and INSPECTION LINE maintenance to ensure quality work and minimal downtime in a safe and efficient manner. Reports to the Plant Manager.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Supervises, coordinates, plans and oversees day-to-day and long-term maintenance of the WHOLE PLANT to ensure quality work and minimal downtime in a safe and efficient manner at the sawmill.

  • Collects information from various sources including the foremen to ensure that the appropriate parts and materials are on site in order to accomplish the tasks needed done.

  • Plans daily maintenance including filling out work orders and distributing them to the appropriate personnel.

  • Reviews downtime to determine causes and prevention.

  • Plans and coordinates service calls from various vendors, contractors and OEM's.

  • Performs activities related to the storeroom. Keeps up with parts and Inventories of parts and notifies purchasing agent when parts are needed. 

  • Discusses and reviews budgets with plant manager

  • Plans and coordinates long-term tasks (weekly, monthly and yearly).

  • Schedules and plans overtime and time-off for maintenance personnel.

  • Performs safety inspections and attends safety meetings. Performs and host safety meetings when needed

  • Trains millwrights and new employees.

  • Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.

  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the company and the community.

  • Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing or handling hazardous or non-hazardous materials and wastes.

  • Maintains the professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

  • Performs work following safety procedures and practices.

  • Regular attendance is required between the assigned start and end times for work.  Exhibits regular and punctual attendance habit to comply with existing attendance requirements. 

    Working Conditions: 

  • Works in a lumber mill environment. 

  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as designated by the company including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing and footwear in appropriate areas and must follow safety practices. 

    Education and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 3-4 years experience in the maintenance field and preferably in a sawmill. Wood products experience required.

  • Excellent computer skills. MS Office Word and Excel.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Have excellent time management and organizational skills.

  • Have excellent problem solving skills.

  • Knowledge of high production wood mills.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills in the electrical, mechanical and hydraulic area.

  • Has the skills to contact companies that Manufacture equipment and work with in our Maintenance agreements to solve and trouble shoot problems 

Compensation

Wage: $70 - $95k/year depending on experience
