Employment Summary
Inspects and grades milled, rough-sawed lumber according to NHLA lumber rules. Examines lumber on green chain conveyor for defects, such as knots, stains, decay, splits, faulty edges, pitch pockets, wormholes and defective milling.

Job Description

  • Effectively inspect all four sides of lumber to determine lumber grade, length and species and ensure it meets current NHLA inspection standards
  • Mark each board so it can be tallied by grade and load
  • Setup the tally machine for each load and direct green chain personnel in sorting by load
  • Pro-actively communicate and work with quality control and operators to ensure quality, efficiency and safety

Job Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience grading lumber
  • NHLA Certification REQUIRED and possess the ability to accurately apply NHLA rules
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to recognize size, grade, quality of different species of hardwoods
  • Proven experience using math skills:
  • Reading tape measure 
  • Digital calipers
  • Converting fractions to decimals
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements for the position which include: standing for long periods, bending, stooping, lifting up-to 50lbs unassisted and working in all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must be safety conscious

Compensation

Salary: $20-$25 per hour based on experience.
