Log Yard Procurement Specialist (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

Pro-Mark Percussion, a leading designer & manufacturer of drumsticks, mallets + other percussion accessories, located in Houston, TX is seeking a full time Procurement Specialist for their Sawmill located in Tennessee.  The Procurement Specialist will be responsible for purchasing and maintaining the log inventories for the saw mill, as well as establishing a log sales program including domestic and export sales of logs.  
Major Responsibilities:  
  • Execute the strategy for the Log Yard, in line with the company vision and strategy, within the constraints of the business plan and budget.  
  • Communicate properly with the Plant Manager and operations to ensure correct product mix is being achieved to maximize efficiency and financial return for the business.  
  • Establish and maintain relationships with log suppliers to ensure needs of the saw mill are met.  
  • Establish and grow a customer base for the sale of logs and by-products in order to maintain a steady revenue stream for the entity. 
  • Work with Sawmill Plant manager to assist in management of sawmill sales plan and meet monthly, quarterly and yearly sales targets. 
  • Become familiar with business activities of the saw mill, and be able to manage business plan in the absence of the plant manager. 
  • Maintains procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories, and be able to communicate with the plant accountant. 
  • Participate in weekly GPS meetings and understand basic principles of operational excellence. 
  • Participate in planning aspects of operation including financial, production goals, and maintenance.

Job Requirements:

  • 2 or 4 year college degree in Forestry or related field. 
  • 2 years of General Log buying experience. 
  • Knowledge of Appalachian hardwoods and ability to identify species. 
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship skills 
  • Ability to maintain an effective liaison with vendors and suppliers 
  • Basic Problem Solving/Root Cause Analysis 
  • Sound business judgment 
  • Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications and basic email.
