Log Scaler (Forestry, Logging & Mill Operations)

BC EcoChips Ltd. currently requires a certified log scaler whom is able to meet all the responsibilities outlined below and a second log scaler whom is able to meet only the scaling and general responsibilities as outlined below. The positions are located in the West Kootenay Region of BC.

Responsibilities: the responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following;

  • Report daily to the log yard operations. Safely and efficiently complete all assigned tasks as needed to satisfy the requirements of this position in compliance with all relative industry regulations; flexibility in scheduling and overtime hours from time to time will be required.
  • Ensure all visitors on site have completed a safety orientation prior to working or visiting the site. Enforce all Health and Safety Policies with all site visitors.
  • Document any incidents, close calls or safety concerns and report accordingly.
  • Complete hazard assessments for the operation. Take steps to reduce or remove hazards in order to keep the operations safe. Report hazards to the appropriate company officials along with the steps taken or recommendations to address them.
  • Daily scale duties involved with loads in and loads include; stratify and inventory log volumes, complete and submit all Harvest Billing System reports as required, complete issue gather and file all paperwork relative to loads in and out including export documents. Carry out all daily log yard tasks including; loading and unloading trucks, monitoring and reporting on log quality, spreading and gathering samples, and managing log yard inventories.
  • Facilitate/participate in visits, site inspections and site investigations from regulatory bodies including Ministry of Forests, Work Safe BC
  • Complete general maintenance and minor repairs on yard equipment. Ensure operators log book and all necessary equipment related documentation is completed and records filed. Arrange for equipment repairs outside of mechanical ability.
  • Complete all yard maintenance needs and requirements within your ability to sustain a safe, organized, and efficient operating work site. Report immediately the Maintenance needs outside your ability to the appropriate company officials for direction.
  • Site first aide attendant; ensure adequate first aid facilities are provided and industry requirements are satisfied.
  • Ensure all required certifications are current, be willing to attend additional training as required to satisfy the needs of this position.
