The Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry has a unique need for a forester with a special interest in computers. The Bureau of Forestry relies heavily on computer systems and applications to manage the natural resources entrusted to us.
In-house production of forestry-related computer applications, both for field data collection and GIS, can be specific enough to require an individual with natural resource management training to fully comprehend a successful product outcome.
Maintaining these computer systems and training staff is also a necessary skill we are looking for.
Examples of the types of applications developed are:
- Timber cruising and timber sale volume software
- Forest stand inventory and statistics software
- Database to inventory leased campsites on state forest land
- Database to inventory right of ways on state forest land
- Database to track ginseng harvest data
- Database to track ATV and snowmobile safety course data
- Database to inventory computer systems
- Backup scripts to assist staff in backing up their digital data
- Mobile app to collect deer browse data
- Mobile app to collect insect defoliation data
- Mobile app to collect forest fire location and perimeter data
- Mobile app to collect plot data for prescribed fire burn plans
- Web applications to track fire prevention programs
- Web application to track urban forestry programs
