INVENTORY RESOURCE FORESTER – TUMWATER, WA

            Non-Exempt / Full-Time

The Inventory Resource Forester primarily collects forest inventory data on timberlands through the Pacific Northwest and inputs data into various inventory and cruise software systems.

Responsibilities include:

Timber Cruising: 

Collect timber inventory data on lands in Washington and Oregon.  Data is collected using both variable radius and fixed radius plots.  Tree measurements include species, basal area, DBH, total and crown heights and sorts.  Must be able to identify forest health issues, property lines and property corners.  Be part of a team that assesses potential acquisitions for the company.

Data Compilation and Transfer:

Transfer data from data collector to Assisi for processing.  Process plot data in Assisi then transfer compiled cruise data to Cengea Planner.  Ensure data transfer process was completed properly by implementing a QC process.  Produce and file inventory and cruise reports.

Research:

Assist in field measurement on company permanent growth plots.  Assist in the establishment of research sites and take field measurements.  Help with measurement, collect samples, or general maintenance of the company seed orchard.

Depletions:

GPS completed harvest units to update stand boundaries.  Process GPS data and communicate with GIS department on updated stand boundaries.

Mapping and GIS:

Perform basic GIS functions to create and split stands.  Create road and stream segments and create net acre calculations on a stand basis.

Successful candidates will have:

1 to 3 years directly related experience and/or training

Bachelors of Science degree in Forestry or related Natural Resources field.

Fluency in English and able to speak and write legibly

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, trigonometry, and quadratic equations. 

Ability to work independently or in groups
