Gemini Corporation is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist for our Calgary, AB Office. This role will be responsible for supervising field work on Gemini’s ongoing reclamation programs. In addition, the successful candidate will prepare work plans, cost estimates along with writing and reviewing reclamation reports. A Degree or Diploma in Environmental, Forestry, Agriculture, Soil Science or Natural Sciences or a related discipline is preferred.   In addition to the technical responsibilities, the Intermediate Environmental Scientist will work with existing clients, new clients and potential future clients, to build long term relationships and develop consistent and continual work. 

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with the assigned Project Manager on an on-going and as-required basis to ensure the smooth completion of field based projects and/or reporting;
  • Communicating with clients, regulators and landowners as required;
  • Completing field work activities including, Detailed Site Assessments (DSA), reclamation supervision, vegetation management, tree planting and supervision and pre-reclamation assessments;
  • Writing reclamation reports including detailed site assessments, reclamation summaries and reclamation certificate applications. 

Core Competencies:

  • Understanding of Alberta 2010 Reclamation Criteria and updates, Reclamation Criteria for Peatlands and Coal and Oil Sands Reclamation requirements;
  • Knowledge and experience with vegetation, soil and landscape assessments and classification;
  • Verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven ability to multitask efficiently and flexibility to respond to changes in priorities;
  • Good organizational and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines;
  • Team player – Ability to work in multidiscipline environments;
  • Decision making and problem solving ability;
  • Leadership – Ability to lead, learn and mentor;
  • Initiative – Self-starter, take ownership and responsibility;
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Additional experience in Environmental Impact Assessments, wildlife monitoring, and stream and wetland classification is considered an asset;
  • Understanding of Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines and soil and groundwater sampling techniques is considered an asset but not a requirement. 

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience & Degree or Diploma in Environmental Science or related discipline
  • Professional Designation or eligibility for Professional Designation
