Industrial Electrician (Maintenance & Trades)

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Electrical Team Lead, the successful candidate will work as part of a team to install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment in Pembroke MDF’s manufacturing environment. This individual will have the ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics and specifications in order to provide troubleshooting and repair services. The Industrial Electrician will also routinely perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and components in order to ensure the continued safe, efficient and effective operations of all equipment and fixtures utilized by the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect machinery as it arrives, unload the parts, and then assemble them with the safe and effective use of hand and power tools
  • Relocate unassembled equipment as it arrives, positioning the machinery and pieces that need to be assembled, using hoists, dollies, and trucks
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics to determine work procedures
  • Dismantle machines by using hammers, crowbars, wrenches, and other hand or power tools
  • Where necessary, construct a foundation for new equipment, using building materials, such as wood, cement, and steel
  • Align machines and equipment during installation, using hoists, jacks, squares, ruler, micrometers, and plumb bobs
  • Use a lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to match the appropriate specifications
  • Assemble all machinery and equipment by bolting, welding, riveting, or fastening them to pre-built foundations
  • Adhere to assembly and installation instructions set forth in vendor manuals and specifications
  • Repair any problems associated with new or existing equipment
  • Fabricate new machine parts if original parts are missing or damaged
  • Identify and correct any problems found in machines, equipment, or processes in order to facilitate production
  • Leads apprentices and directs them to ensure successful task completion
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machines and equipment
  • Complete all paperwork as required
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Licensed industrial electrician, (Red Seal) preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience required with preference given to those with anexperience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in the Pulp & Paper industry or a similar industry would be considered an asset 

Skills:

  • Allen Bradley PLC experience would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of safe operating procedures.
  • Self-starter, with developed analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Computer literate.

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work 12 hour shifts on a rotating basis in a 24/7 manufacturing facility.
  • Steel-toed safety boots will be required.
  • Overtime as required.

  • Hazards associated with the trade.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to remain standing, crouching or bending for long periods of time.

Physical Effort:

Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
