Harvesting Technician (Technologists & Technicians)

Primary Responsibility: This candidate will be responsible for providing support to the harvesting forester in the Chopin Forestry District. Responsibilities include GIS, collecting, reporting, and maintaining management data, logging supervision, timber cruising, complying to FSC regulations, auditing, and supervising various wood flow activities for contract compliance. Other duties require assisting in acquisition of time timber, attending police jury meetings, and assisting in vendor acquisitions.

Job Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalency, and training with a forestry program through a vocational technical college, or equivalent experience. An outstanding safety record in all aspects of previous employment history is crucial. He/she should have at least one year of experience in GIS, logging audits, identifying maximum product value, and using map and GPS for timber inventory. Experience in conducting performance assessments and applying appropriate control measures is preferable.

Behavioral Profile: The successful candidate will be safety conscious, self-motivated, and dependable, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and possess an excellent work ethic. This individual will be required to work independently, as well as part of a team. Developmental training is a condition of successful service in this role. He/she must also possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with loggers and vendors.
