The SilvaGro Partnership has been a leading producer of forest seedlings for British Columbia and Alberta since 1985.  Our two forest nurseries and extensive cold storage facilities make us one of the largest forest seedling producers in Western Canada. 

Position Available: Grower

This position is responsible for the planning, organizing and orchestrating the growing staff and the cultural program to produce quality seedlings.

Job Description

  • Responsible for crop layout, growth curves and crop plan
  • Develop all aspects of the cultural program including: developing the cultural program, directing staff to implement all aspects of the cultural plan.
  • The grower must monitor the crop for nutrient requirements and morphological issues. Ensure that the crop meets client specifications.
  • The grower will supervise and train all growing staff and ensure they understand and can implement all cultural practices.

Quesnel, B.C. is a bustling small town of 23,000 residents. It is situated on Highway 97, the main north-south road in the Province, and local airport has regular flights to Vancouver. SilvaGro Quesnel

Our Quesnel site is a state-of-the-art greenhouse facility, employing both freestanding and gutter-connected houses. The majority of the houses are heated using waste heat from Quesnel River Pulp, and we use day-length extension lighting on most of the crop. We also have cold-storage facilities onsite, and the administrative functions for both Quesnel and Juniper Beach are performed here.

Education and Licensing Requirements

 

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture
  • Record-keeping experience
  • Three to five years’ experience working in a greenhouse environment, preferably with conifer crops

 

Grower must have a Pesticide applicator certificate.

Compensation

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. A qualified Grower with Forest Nursery experience can expect to earn $55,000 per year with extended benefits.
