CPP Environmental is currently seeking a full-time GIS Technician to join our team of professionals. Ideally the successful candidate will be able to start work in January 2018. The successful candidate will be working out of our Sherwood Park office. A competitive compensation package will be offered corresponding with the candidates experience and skills.

Opportunity Description

Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:

The GIS Technician is responsible for providing GIS deliverables and support for new and ongoing environmental projects that have been assigned by the Technical Services Manager. The GIS Technician will interact with a multi-disciplinary team of environmental professionals on a number of diverse projects occurring concurrently. The ability to work with team members, project and client leads is critical to the position. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with project leads and staff to deliver quality products
  • Perform data analysis and spatial queries.
  • Create, edit, and manage data for a variety of projects.
  • Produce high quality custom maps.
  • Support field data collection through the development of mobile applications.
  • Follow quality control procedures on mapping, data, and analysis products.

Experience, Education and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in GIS.
  • Minimum Four (4) years of related work experience.
  • Working experience with ESRI ArcGIS and other GIS software.
  • Working experience with GIS deliverables related to natural resource development.
  • Experience providing GIS services to private industry and government agencies.
  • Knowledge and experience working on projects that deal with LiDAR, 3D modelling, geodatabase concepts, and watershed modelling.
  • Experience with Python.2
  • Experience with relational databases is an asset.
  • Experience with flood mapping is an asset.
  • Ability to work on projects independently.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office Suite are preferred.
  • Professional writing skills (writing, editing, proof reading) is an asset.
  • Highly motivated and self-starting work ethic.
