Wa are a leader in the forest products industry which will offer you the opportunity to work in a first-rate facility with a diverse product offering. Our mill is located in Nakina, Ontario and we currently are seeking talent for the role of General Manager.

You will be responsible for managing a team made up of staff, operators and maintenance specialists. this modern three-line mill produces over 130 million BDFT per annum and incorporates the latest technology available in the industry today so that you have all the tools needed for success! The General Manager reports to the President of the company. You will also be directly responsible for all aspects of the business; from the safety of all of the employees to the business performance, including administration and labour relations.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest safety standards are being upheld
  • Ensure production targets are met
  • Maintain progressive employee training and development programs and succession planning
  • Manage all labour relations, manpower and scheduling requirements
  • Oversee all work systems to ensure efficient operation
  • Oversee all inventory levels, including raw log an lumber to operate at efficient levels
  • Work with Treasurer to ensure cost control and financial
  • Maintain continuous improvement program and maintenance systems to maximize performance
  • Optimize product values by liaising with lumber sales and sawmill and planer operations in order to develop the best product strategy and product distribution
  • Ensure optimal quality and fibre recovery through process optimization and quality control
  • Ensure product quality (lumber, chips, bark and sawdust and shavings) meets customer needs and lumber grade standards
  • Ensure environmental compliance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma from recognized post-Secondary Institution or the equivalent in related experience in Sawmill/Planer Mill manufacturing
  • Preference will be given to candidates with sawmill or wood products manufacturing experience
  • Excellent Communication skills (spoken and written), bilingualism would be an asset
  • A passion for taking charge in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Exceptional prioritization and multi-tasking skills
