Jefferson Resource Company (JRC) is accepting applications from prospective forestry technicians with immediate openings.  JRC is a full-service forestry and environmental consulting firm with headquarters in Yreka, California.  

Job Description: Forestry Technician Positions are available in Siskiyou County with possible opportunities to transfer to offices in Shasta County, Mendocino County, and the Central Sierras.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A high degree of self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, good decision-making skills, a good attitude and the ability to work safely and effectively alone in steep, rugged terrain under adverse weather conditions
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to drive hazardous mountain roads at night.
  • Ability to identify plant species, especially trees is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to drive an ATV in a safe manner
  • A working knowledge of the use of a compass, diameter tape, etc. is preferred but not required.

Job Duties Include but are not limited to:

  • Flagging stream zones, boundaries, habitat retention zones, marking timber, cruising timber, etc. All work will be under the supervision of a company RPF.
  • Timber cruising and timber marking.
  • Knowledge of GPS systems are preferred but not required.
  • Field mapping skills on topographic maps.
  • Willingness to take on other job duties as requested including but not limited to, Northern Spotted Owl surveys, vegetation surveys, stream surveys, and road and culvert inventory.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.  While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to hike, walk, sit, listen and communicate. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Heavy items (backpacks, equipment, supplies) must be lifted or moved on a frequent basis. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.  Specific hearing abilities required by this position are auditory perception.

Travel Requirements: Overnight work, outside of Siskiyou County, will be required. Camping maybe required.

Compensation

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
