Duties 

Under the general supervision of the District Supervisor, the technician delivers departmental programs concerning the development, maintenance, protection and public education of forestry, wildlife and recreation resources which may involve Crown Land management, Private Land management, monitoring for Forest Sustainability Regulations compliance, forest fire prevention and suppression, wildlife studies, biological surveys, insects and diseases surveys, parks operations, properties and vehicle maintenance, land administration, public liaison and education, and other activities as may be assigned. 

The focus of this position will be the delivery of the Wildlife, Provincial Parks, Wildfire Management, Land Administration, Crown Lands Management and Extension Program areas. 

Qualifications 

Requires successful completion of a department recognized two-year Natural Resources Technical Diploma. (Transcript upon request). 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a proven knowledge and experience in the processes, policies, procedures and regulations related to the Wildlife Management, Wood Acquisition Program (WAP), Wildlife Habitat and Watercourse Protections (WHWP) regulations, Crown Road and Extension Methods. In addition, the principles and practices involved in wildland fire, public education activities, and occupational health & safety. 

They must possess competent verbal and written communication skills, have sound judgement and proven ability to provide exceptional service to clients as well as respond appropriately to crisis situations. Applicants must be computer literate. Experience with Global Positioning Systems, ArcView, a Valid NS driver’s license (minimum Class 5 or equivalent) and access to a motor vehicle are essential. The successful candidate will be required to operate department vehicles, including off road vehicles, boats and equipment. Work in remote areas and travel long distances, on foot, over rough terrain. Certification regarding Canadian Firearm Safety Course, N.S. Hunter Safety Course, N.S. Fur Harvester Course and the DNR Rifle and Shotgun course would be assets. 

Pay Grade: TE 16 - TE 25 

Salary Range: $1,533.00 - $2,561.00 Bi-Weekly
