Forestry Technician (Technologists & Technicians)

Duration: Full time beginning immediately. 

   Job description: This position works independently and or with supervision from Arborterra Consulting Inc. staff performing work activities associated with forest management and planning including timber stand improvement, invasive species management, tree planting, timber sale administration, timber inventories, and equipment maintenance. Duties will include vegetation management, equipment maintenance, and small equipment operation such as chainsaws, tractors, mowers, sprayers and skid loaders. The Technician must use safety equipment and must maintain a safety conscious attitude at all times. This is a full time 40 hour / week position. 

   Additional RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 
   • Supervises part time staff, and will help plan and direct work. 
   • Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain. 
   • Additional hours may be required as need during peak work seasons. 
   • Makes day to day decisions as delegated by supervisor. 
   • Will be required to work independently. 
   • The technician will interact with Arborterra Consulting clients.     
    
   WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT 
   • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances. 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
   • 2 years’ experience in forestry/land management. Experience recognizing plant and animal species as required to complete forest management activities. 
   • Ability to operate and maintain various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g.; lawn mower, chainsaw, tractor, trucks, etc) 
   • Experience working in a team environment. 
   • Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide applicators) 
   • This position requires a valid driver's license. 
   • Ability to perform physical work, sometimes under adverse conditions or in inclement weather 
   • Basic computer application skills 
    
   PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
   • 4 year degree in forestry/land management. 
   • Experience working with or knowledge of natural systems. 
   • Farm background 

Compensation

Salary: $40000/year
