Forestry Technician Position

Rocky Mountain Forestry LLC

Based out of Coeur d’Alene, in scenic North Idaho, RMF has been in operation since 2008 and is a local leader in providing consulting and contracting forestry services to a mix of both small private landowner, and private industrial clients in Idaho, Washington, and Montana. We are currently seeking a Forest Technician, who will support RMF foresters with the implementation of forest management activities and operations.

Location: Coeur d’Alene Idaho

Duration: Full Time Seasonal

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Management, quality control, and compliance auditing of contract reforestation crews
  • Conducting plantation stocking surveys and seedling survival surveys
  • Assist with all timber harvest layout activities
  • Timber Cruising
  • Delineation and monitoring of helicopter and ground based herbicide spray projects
  • Assist with road layout and road maintenance assessment activities
  • Landing and jack-pot pile burning
  • PCT unit delineation, contract compliance, and check cruising
  • Assist forest engineer with stream surveys and crossing designs

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or B.S. degree in Forestry or related field
  • One year minimum of cumulative summer or full time professional forestry experience
  • Basic familiarity with orienteering, map reading, and use of forestry field equipment
  • Timber cruising experience
  • Familiarity with timber harvest operations, logging equipment, and western forest silviculture
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Excel, GPS technologies, Avenza maps, Dropbox
  • Working knowledge of PLS methodology
  • Familiarity with ID/WA Forest Practice Rules, and MT BMP’s
  • Chainsaw training/experience
  • Strong work ethic, good communication skills both written and verbal

Position Requirements:

  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Must have dependable four wheel drive vehicle (compensation provided), and valid driver’s license
  • Physical ability to traverse distances in excess of one mile in all weather conditions and in mountainous terrain
  • Ability to carry heavy loads in said terrain and weather conditions for extended periods

This position will be located out of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Work will focus primarily on surrounding client lands generally within a 3 hour drive time one way, however, occasional travel to farther reaching areas may be required. Daily driving, including travel on unmaintained logging roads is required.
