The Opportunity:

Canfor is currently looking for a motivated forestry professional to join our team in Vavenby as a Forestry Supervisor for our Woodlands Division in a full time position.

The Role:

Working under the supervision of a Forestry Superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of planned, permitted and or harvested volumes to meet manufacturing facility needs and Company commitments. Based upon operational needs this position may transition to a supervisor role with primary focuses in permitting, harvesting or silviculture. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure activities are conducted in compliance with all applicable Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, forestry legislation, Canfor’s Environmental Policy, Forestry Principles, and Forestry Management System.
  • Implement and sustain identified efficiencies and cost savings initiatives
  • As assigned, complete required planning activities for the operations to ensure targets are achieve with respect to making planned volumes available
  • Ensure all necessary assessments - stand level archeology, riparian, terrain etc… are completed to facilitate cutting permit application
  • As assigned, complete all required permitting and appraisals to meet divisional needs
  • As assigned, ensure permitted volume meets all manufacturing facility requirements for profile, fibre quality, and cost.
  • As assigned, complete all required site plans concurrent to permit submission
  • As assigned, complete all required road permits and required amendments within appropriate timelines
  • As assigned, complete all necessary harvest supervision and related activities to ensure safe, and timely operations
  • As assigned, complete required silviculture activities to facilitate a successful reforestation program
  • Tracking, reporting and root cause analysis of safety, quality, cost, and delivery results.
  • Administrative and environmental management activities.
  • Preparing budgets and managing costs within your specific responsibilities.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will bring the following experience and expertise:

  • University Degree or Technical Diploma with a minimum of 5 years forestry experience.
  • Eligibility for professional designation with the ABCFP.
  • Excellent leadership, communication & project management skills, with the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable B.C. legislation and policies.
  • Proficient in using a computer & related software and forestry applications.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license

Preference may be given to those with extensive experience with:

  • Varied experience in Forest Planning, Cutting Permit acquisition, Harvesting and Silviculture
  • Fostering positive First Nations relationships
