Skill Requirements:
Education: Applicants should be enrolled in a college or University forestry program, have one season of timber cruising and forestry field experience, or be a graduate forest technician or forester.
Credentials: Valid driver's license, Access to 4wd vehicle and/or 2wd vehicle with ATV.
Experience: Must pass the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (OMNR) ELC course put on by the OMNR each spring throughout Northern Ontario BEFORE being offered an employment agreement.
Work Setting: Outdoors, camping in all weather conditions, living remotely for 10 days. NOTE: all technical equipment will be supplied
Essential Skills: Physically fit, reading, writing, working with others (in a 2 person crew), problem solving, self-motivated. Must also have the ability to navigate precisely and in straight lines in the forest using a magnetic compass.
Other Information: Crews must be equipped with their own camping equipment, including cooking essentials and Silva (or equivalent) compass as well as all weather and safety clothing. There may be possible opportunities for continued work as a photo interpreter should the seasonal staff complete the field season and pass the Ontario Government Forestry Resource Inventory (FRI) photo interpretation course and test.
