Job Duties – Faller- Harvester

Job Requirements:

• Certified tree faller certificate (optional) and 2-5 years of experience in chain saw operations)
• Knowledge of Sylvicultural Practices in the British Columbia forest district.
• Knowledge of Best Management Practices and Forest Certification Programs
• Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills
• Will be required to write reports and plans, take descriptive notes, and contact landowners and contractors.
• Must be able to use GPS/hand- held compass.

Applicants must be able to walk long distances, over uneven terrain, through heavy underbrush, and must be able to endure high summer temperatures and high humidity.

This job will be heavily field oriented (approximately 80% field - 20% office) with daily travel. It is preferred that you provide your own 4x4 vehicle (mileage paid). This is not a requirement however.

Job Duties

• Fall trees and cut them into specified log lengths, using chain saws.
• Saw back-cuts, leaving sufficient sound wood to control direction of fall.
• Select trees to be cut down, assessing factors such as site, terrain, and weather conditions before beginning work.
• Certificates needed
• Basic chainsaw operator training
• WHMIS
• Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate
• Level 1 or 2  First Aid Certificate
• Valid BC Drivers Licence Provided Abstract
• S-100 Basic Fire Suppression & Safety Course Certificate
