POSITION SUMMARY

Timber Products Company is searching for someone with strong quantitative and communication skills to fill the position of Forester. Timber Products’ Foresters are responsible for planning, preparing and securing regulatory approval for Timber Harvest Plans on 115,000 acres of Company owned timberland in Northern California. Additionally responsible for timberland road management, design, engineering and maintenance on Company and USFS Co-Op roads. Oversees the administration of logging and road construction operations. Provides general forest management advice and assistance including development of short and long-term plans for the management of timberlands. Must be able to represent Timber Products in a professional manner on USFS Co-Op road construction and maintenance projects. 

MAJOR TASKS

• Planning, preparation and submission of Timber Harvest Plans.
• Administration of logging operations (ground based, cable & helicopter).
• Design & plan logging road construction and reconstruction on Company lands.
• Ensure proper maintenance of the timberland road network.
• Represent the Company on USFS Co-Op road construction & maintenance projects.
• Manage & administer access agreements to ensure full legal access to Company lands.
• Create accurate & detailed maps using ESRI ArcView software.
• Assist other foresters with forestry, wildlife and land management tasks such as: timber cruising, timber marking, unit flagging, wildlife surveys, slash burning, regeneration, etc.
• Interact with State and Federal regulatory personnel and ensure compliance with all regulations and Company policies including the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
• Work efficiently with a small cohesive forest management team to responsibly manage Company timberlands and achieve production and profitability targets. 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• A minimum of 5 years of forest management experience, preferably in California.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry, Forest Engineering or closely related discipline.
• California Registered Professional Forester license strongly preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of THP preparation and the California Forest Practice Rules.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Strong quantitative and communication skills.  Must be able to independently represent the Company’s interest when negotiating with regulatory agencies.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and ESRI ArcView software. 
• Ability to work safely in rough, steep terrain during poor weather conditions. 
• Experience with forestry equipment including: GPS, chainsaws & ATV’s.
