Bird and Crawford Forestry (BCF), a division of Advanced Ecology, Ltd., with offices in Center, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana, is seeking qualified candidates to fill several full-time Forest Management positions. The positions will involve assisting other foresters, natural resource management specialists and Division Managers with the collection and interpretation of timber inventory and other forest resource related data necessary for the development of sound forest management strategies that will help our clients meet their ownership objectives. Positions are open in our Shreveport office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assisting with the set-up and implementation of timber inventories;
  • Assisting with the set-up and implementation of timber sales;
  • Inspecting timber harvesting activities to monitor contract compliance;
  • Marking timber;
  • Maintaining boundary lines;
  • Assisting with the preparation of forest management plans, timber appraisals and/or timber sales agreements;
  • Communicating with landowners using both written and verbal skills;
  • Interpreting timber volume data;
  • Becoming proficient in relevant computer applications through training and hands-on experience; and
  • Completing other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: BCF prefers that candidates have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher, or experience and/or specialized training in forest management operations from an accredited institute that may be substituted for education. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment;
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent jobs while producing quality results;
  • Understanding of basic forest measurement and inventory methods;
  • Basic ability to identify tree species common to East Texas, Louisiana and South Arkansas;
  • Working knowledge/experience with Microsoft Office Applications; and
  • Working knowledge/experience with GPS equipment and applications;
  • Experience with photo/map interpretation and/or data collection;

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will be required to report to the office on a daily basis. On occasion, the employee may be requi red to work more than 40 hours per week and periodically work out-of-town. The employee will be required to furnish transportation suitable for both in-woods and highway use; however, all work related miles will be reimbursed at the stated IRS mileage rate.
