Job Description:

This position will report directly to the Salem area Silviculture Forester managing Hampton’s Salem area fee timberlands, and is responsible to conduct and support field operations in accordance with the principles of sustainable forest management.

Experience / Skills Required:

  • Conduct field operations relating to reforestation activities including, contract supervision of tree planting and measuring seedling survival. 
  • Responsible for fire protection, maintenance of fire equipment, operation of fire equipment and compliance with applicable fire regulations. 
  • Support staff work on vegetation management field projects including site preparation, slash burning and herbicide application. 
  • Support staff work on harvest related field projects such as road layout, road maintenance and harvest contract administration.
  • Support staff in the management of seed orchard contracts, genetic coops, sowing orders and nursery quality compliance for all company lands. 
  • Interface with adjacent timberland owners, neighbors, general public, and local authorities.
  • Responsible for forest operations compliance with the Principles and Standards of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) on Salem company lands. 
  • Assist other Hampton personnel in various projects as needed such as inventory, group tours or timber sale cruising.
  • Responsible to insure safe work practices and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. 

Job Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of forestry related responsibilities.

  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and familiar with GIS 


Education:
Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in forest related curriculum
