Quality Services, Inc. (QSI) is a growing natural and cultural resources consulting company serving the needs of the private and public entities in South Dakota, Wyoming and throughout the United States. We are seeking self-motivated, hardworking individuals to join our team as a full time professional forester. Substantial overnight travel is required including camping in remote areas, and in areas frequented by bears.

Duties:

  • Common stand exams for US Forest Service and others
  • Timber marking for US Forest Service and others
  • Timber sale preparation & administration; layout, marking, cruising, establishing boundaries, etc.
  • Inventory, compile data, and prepare reports for forest stewardship plans and inspections
  • Understand, advise clients on, and follow best management practices in multiple states
  • Understand, advise clients on, and follow regulatory and sustainability requirements
  • Municipal tree inventories
  • Building and maintaining relationships with staff, agency personnel, clients, loggers and others
  • GIS/GPS and mapping

Beneficial Skills, Experience and Certifications

Skills and prior experience as identified under Duties above

  • Silviculture in mid-west and western US
  • Society of American Foresters Candidate or Certified Forester
  • American Tree Farm System Qualified Inspector
  • Forest inventory systems
  • Self-motivation and a positive work attitude
  • Well-developed organization and communications skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to make decisions and plan work and work independently or in team
  • Computer proficiency in ArcGIS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and field data collection software

General Qualifications

  • Two years field experience in forestry as indicated above in Duties.
  • BA or BS in Forestry from SAF accredited school
  • Possess valid State driver license and be eligible to operate company vehicles including automobiles and/or all-terrain vehicles. 

Employees must be able carry 50 lb. backpacks in rugged terrain, walking up to 10 miles per day. Heavy items such as backpacks, equipment, paint or other supplies, must be lifted, carried or moved on a frequent basis.
