JOB PURPOSE:

To manage various facets of forestry operations and forest management. May include forest development, silviculture, harvesting, road construction, planning and wood sales/purchases 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Personal and Contractor Safety

·         Manages forestry operations and forest management. May include  forest management plans, forest development, silviculture, harvesting, road construction, hauling, planning and wood sales/purchases.

·         Administration associated with job position (e.g. preparation of budgets, bid packages and contracts. Tracking and reporting of costs,  and reviewing invoices)

·         Contract negotiation and implementation.

·         Liaison with customers , ministries and contractors

·         Complete SFI documents and participate in SFI internal and 3rd party audits.

·         Maintain compliance with all legislation and Certification

·         Assist Forester III and  Area Forest Manager  with budget development and forecasting  

·         Participate in provincial and trade association committees

·         Coordinate and lead work teams

·         Coordinate and lead special projects as assigned

·         Manage direct reports 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         safety conscious,

·         good planning , GIS, GPS skills and ability to coordinate resources,

·         cost orientated,

·         good communicator  and good interpersonal skills, team player,

·         knowledge of applicable forestry and safety legislation,

·         ability to drive in a variety of field and highway conditions,

·         ability to operate a computer and supporting software,

Education:

·         Degree, diploma, or extensive operational background in the related field of work. 

Experience:

·         Minimum 3 years forestry experience   

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

·         Office and outdoor environment subject to elements of nature.
