Job Description

Provides statewide leadership for the division and department wildland fire prevention program. Coordinates prevention efforts with many partners including the State Fire Marshal, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service and other agencies on a statewide basis. Works closely with Marketing and Outreach staff to deliver appropriate fire education and prevention messaging and products. Represent the division and department on various state, national, and international committees and workgroups. Supports the divisions fire program with policy and procedure development, managing numerous computer based tools and applications, assisting with national dispatch operations, proving leadership with fire equipment and radio management, support the field with fire cause and determination training and coordination, and assists the section manager with grant research and applications. This position may maintain fire qualifications and assist with suppression and prescribed burning.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in forestry.

Experience
Three years of professional experience in the protection, development and maintenance of forestlands, including one year equivalent to a Forester P11.

Alternate Education and Experience
Forester 12

Additional experience equivalent to a Forest Fire Officer Supervisor beyond the four year minimum may be substituted at the rate of one year for 10 credit hours of NWCG training for up to 30 credits of the required training.
Completion of not less than 55 credits of National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Wildland Fire Qualification curriculum, plus four years of experience equivalent to a Forest Fire Officer Supervisor in state service may be substituted for the education and experience requirement.

Alternate Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree in a field of natural resources with not less than 24 semester (36 term) credits in forestry related courses.

Compensation

$24.60 - $35.85 an hour
