Job Title: Forester / Timber Cruiser

Location: Based in Bellingham, WA with work in surrounding areas

Beginning Date: As Soon As Possible

Qualifications: We are seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work independently and in a team environment as well. A Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or a 2 year technical degree in Forestry with 1-3 years of experience preferred. Other natural resource related degrees or additional relevant, professional forestry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. This position must have a solid understanding of forest management practices and regulations as they are applied in Washington State. Timber cruising experience desired. Must have a professional demeanor and possess good communication skills, have proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, GIS), and effective writing ability. Requires physical-fitness and endurance for hiking steep forest terrain, climbing over downed trees, and carrying equipment and tools while working in the field. A valid driver’s license is required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1.) Cruise and analyze timber sales and purchases under direction of the owners and/or the General Manager;

2.) Manages all forest practices applications for logging and road building, burn permits for slash/debris disposal, road maintenance and abandonment planning, and hydraulic project approval permits for installing culverts and bridges in typed waters;

3.) Serves as the company liaison with state and local agencies pursuant to permitting requirements, attends neighborhood meetings, participates in public meetings and hearings, and attends other government meetings as necessary.

4.) Provides layout and marking of timber harvest boundaries, stream/wetland buffers, and road locations, and manages the replanting of harvested areas;

5.) Hires and manages consulting services contracts for surveying, engineering, geo-technical, tree planting, and wildlife assessments

Compensation

Salary and Benefits:

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum 40 hours per week, paid
vacation, medical and dental care plan, and participation in 401(k) plan. Job requires office work combined with field work during all seasons and willingness to travel and work after hours and weekends when required. Vehicle provided.
