  Chestnut Ridge Forestry

Ouachita and Ozark, Arkansas, United States

Foresters/Forest technicians will be conducting Timber Marking and Common Stand Exams (CSE) on National Forests in the Southern States and throughout the lower 48.
THIS JOB NOTICE IS MAINLY TO FILL 2-4 FULL-TIME POSITIONS and 2-4 SUMMER TEMP POSITIONS ON THE NATIONAL FORESTS IN ARKANSAS (OUACHITA AND OZARK), MAINLY CONDUCTING ALL ASPECTS OF SALE LAYOUT, MARKING TO PRESCRIPTION AND CRUISING (BUT SOME CSE WORK AS WELL).
IF WE GET ENOUGH FEEDBACK FROM FORESTERS, WE MAY FILL AN ADDITIONAL 2-3 POSITIONS ON THE DESOTO NF BASED IN WIGGINS, MS.
WE ANTICIPATE THESE ARKANSAS POSITIONS WILL BE EMPLOYEE POSITIONS, BUT CONSULTANTS & SUBCONTRACTORS ARE WELCOME AS WELL.
THESE ARKANSAS POSITIONS WE HOPE TO FILL AND START WORKING STARTING MID-May TO EARLY-June.
We’re always hiring Nationwide for professional forestry contracts and specifically Regions 2,3,8,9 Common Stand Exams (CSE) Throughout the Rocky Mountains, South and Lake States.
We presently have contracts running in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia, though almost anywhere in the lower 48 could be a future inventory with additional upcoming 2016/2017 work expected in MN, PA, ID, AL and MS. Winter months are spent in the southern states marking timber & CSEs.
Once hired, you will be responsible for conducting common stand exams (CSE) and timber marking/ cruising on various National Forests throughout the lower 48.
CSE Fieldwork requires recording tree data with a PDR on each point using a BAF prism; limiting distances will be measured.
Some of the data collected include species, dbh, tree height, tree vigor, insect & disease, tree and stand age, seral stage or habitat type, canopy cover, ground cover, GPS Coordinates, fuels transects, aspect, topography, wildlife use, site index and many more measurements.
All these duties will be discussed in depth and demonstrated during training, we have trained over 450 foresters/techs in the past and we’ll teach you all the field skills you never learned in school.
** The timber marking/cruising jobs in Arkansas will entail “all aspects” of sale layout, marking and cruising. These Ozark and Ouachita NF marking jobs will still require travel in the state, but should have 1-3 months on a specific contract/work area for setting up housing. Likely Arkansas towns where these contracts will be based out of are Mtn Home and Clarksville on the Ozark NF and Waldron, Mt. Ida, Mena and Danville on the Ouachita NF.
These marking contracts require foresters/techs to learn all aspects of timber sales as conducted by the US Forest Service (we’ll train you). Then you’ll be expected to work at a high rate of production, along this line we’re looking for the best and brightest with the drive to produce.
Chestnut Ridge Forestry is a private forestry consultant with 31+ years of Federal contracting experience on over 45 National Forests in 30+ states. We’ve also had a number of large CFI re-measures and Stand Exams with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Dept. of Defense.
For anyone interested in future Forest Service/BIA positions, these are the jobs for you.
We also expect to pick-up FIA re-measure and initial install contracts in a # of states. For experienced FIA examiners, you can expect to make $1,700-$2,300 weekly & join our elite group of FIA/CFI foresters.
The heart of our outfit is our core of employees, subcontractors and consultants who travel the country, working in 2-4 states yearly (some of these consultants (home/family) stay in a small radius, working only 2-5 months). They make approximately $40,000-$70,000 working 6-10 months yearly. These jobs allow our Subs/Consultants to set their own schedules and though it is a pretty laid back environment (little supervision after training), you’ll still need to help maintain CRFs production schedules. These are great opportunities for start-up consultants to have a solid income while gaining experience and building a base of clients when not working our contracts. I’ll mention these Arkansas positions are year round positions in Arkansas, though you’ll have the opportunity to travel nationwide.
Qualifications:
Full Time Examiners (Employees & Subs) must have successfully completed a 4-year or 2-year curriculum in forestry (1 season and or relevant field experience preferred). We are extremely hot to fill 2 to 4 Full-Time Timber Marking/CSE positions as well as 2-4 Summer temp positions on the Ouachita and Ozark National Forests (AR) and 2-3 Full or Part time positions on the DeSoto National Forest (MS). These are normally traveling jobs with most foresters working 3+ states per year, though with this job notice we have a # of opportunities for employees and subcontractors who are only available in specific areas with-in a 100-200 mile radius (AR, MS, MN). Experienced Employees and Subcontractors/Consultants will have hiring preferences. Due to putting out our job notice late this Spring, we expect to fill most of these positions with 2016 May Grads and 3rd year forestry students.

Employee wage and cash fringe benefits for full-timers starting at $25.00/hour, Summer temp positions 2016 Wage and Cash Fringe benefit will be $20.00/hour and we prefer that summer temps be available for a minimum of 10 weeks.
