PRT operates a diverse network of nurseries in Canada and the United States enabling us to grow a wide variety of high-quality container forest seedlings for all climatic and site conditions. Annual production of over 220 million seedlings makes PRT the largest producer of containerized forest seedlings in North America. We produce trees for customers from British Columbia to Ontario and Wisconsin to California.

Job Description

As an integral member of the local management team you will have the opportunity to work with the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry with a focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement. You will oversee all aspects of greenhouse and open compound seedling production and lead an experienced team that takes pride in meeting our customer expectations. Your focus will include financial management, personnel development and leadership, continuous improvement activities, customer focus, overall site safety, and promotion of PRT.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:
o    A bachelor’s degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
o    Five or more years of horticulture or crop production experience 
o    Experience leading and managing crop production teams 
o    Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
o    Ability to problem solve and conduct root cause analysis
o    Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS-Excel, MS-Word, and MS-Outlook
o    Knowledge or experience with continuous process improvement in a production environment (would be an asset)
o    Ability to analyze and work with financial data including developing budgets and financial analysis
o    Ability to problem solve and conduct root cause analysis

Location:
PRT Beaverlodge is located just 45 km west of Grande Prairie, AB, and 500 km northwest of Edmonton, 90 km southeast of Dawson Creek and “Mile 0” of the Alaskan Highway. 
Within close proximity to the Rocky Mountains, the area is an outdoorsperson’s paradise. There are numerous hunting and fishing opportunities as well as river-boating, canoeing, and kayaking on the nearby Beaverlodge, Red Willow, Wapiti and Smoky Rivers. Downhill skiing at Nitehawk or Cross-country skiing the over 35 kms of trails at Wapiti Nordic Ski Club are also popular during the winter. In the summer, there are numerous trails in the area for equestrian, ATV, hiking, mountain biking, and running.
Grande Prairie area has several golf courses and just minutes away from Beaverlodge is one of the area’s best kept secrets, Riverbend Golf Course. The foothills south of Grande Prairie and around Grande Cache are popular year-round for hiking and snowmobiling; scenic Kakwa and Kinuseo Falls are popular day-trips for those wishing to simply explore.
Beaverlodge has a new and modern recreation center with an indoor pool, lazy river as well as a fitness center. The Leisure and Eastlink Centre are in neighboring Grande Prairie. Grande Prairie, with an official population of approximately 63000, services a much bigger population-base of the surrounding area. As well as sports and recreation, it is also is home to numerous shopping and dining opportunities with most of the “big-box” stores and restaurant chains represented.
