ForestrySA requires an experienced and commercially oriented Forest Manager to assume operational management of ForestrySA’s commercial and native forests in South Australia’s Mount Lofty Ranges, Mid North and Green Triangle regions. This is a full-time contract position and will be based in the Adelaide Hills region.

The key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to ensuring that:

  • ForestrySA’s commercial, community and environmental objectives are achieved through proactive planning and the implementation of fully integrated best practice operational programs and resources;
  • Long term planning to ensure the development and sustainability of forest reserves; 
  • ForestrySA meets its legislative requirements in relation to fire management including management of prescribed burning programs, firefighting preparedness and response;
  • Conservation and recreation operational targets agreed are met;
  •  Constructive, collaborative arrangements with local community, forest industry participants, fire management authorities and other relevant government agencies continue to be fostered.

ForestrySA has a long and proud history of forest management service to the South Australian communities in the aforementioned regions in which it manages commercially sustainable plantation based forest operations and/or native forest reserves.

The successful candidate will hold a relevant qualification in forest management and will have extensive practical experience in comprehensive forest management operations ideally including silviculture, harvesting, conservation, resource availability/demand planning and fire prevention and protection operations. Sound commercial experience and judgement in the establishment and negotiation of contracts and the management of contractors is important. Strong communication, influencing and leadership qualities to drive continuous improvement initiatives is also required.
