 The Position:

Forestry Corporation is seeking an experienced and talented individual to take on the important role of Forest Management System Specialist.  The location of the role is flexible, and can be conducted from your choice of FCNSW offices along the coast, although the 3 major regional hubs are in Coffs Harbour, Wauchope and Batemans Bay. Available locations also include West Pennant Hills and Maitland. This position will provide you with an opportunity to experience a diverse range of forests and staff. In this flexible role you would be responsible for ongoing development, implementation, improvement and facilitation of internal and external reviews of Hardwood Forests, Forest Management System. The Forestry Management Specialist is part of a small specialist team that plays a key role working with Functional Managers and teams to identify forest management risks and to support solutions to foster a culture of continuous improvement.  The position oversees maintenance of FCNSWs certification and this includes travel to a range of work centres to ensure the system is running effectively and to manage ongoing certification audits.

The ideal candidate will be self driven and enjoy working in a dynamic and fast paced environment. They will also ideally possess the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Considerable experience in forestry management and environmental compliance, preferably in a native forest environment.
  • Demonstrated focus on innovation, continuous improvement and outcomes, with proven success in influencing others to deliver improved outcomes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the requirements of the Australian Forestry Standard and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard and experience in providing authoritative technical advice.
  • High-level management skills, including root cause analysis, risk assessment, problem solving, performance reporting and project management.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, collaboration and negotiation skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Capacity and willingness to undertake fire and fuel management duties, fire fighting and extensive travel (mainly driving), work extended hours, and to maintain sufficient fitness for the job (e.g. able to efficiently conduct reconnaissance / investigation through difficult terrain and dense vegetation) and a current drivers licence.
  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications or extensive relevant experience.
