Job Description:

This position serves in the Forest Resource Information Program within the IDNR, Division of Forestry performing technical and professional functions in the area of forest resource and land management. The incumbent collects and analyzes forest inventory data on both state forest lands and private lands enrolled in the Classified Forest and Wildlands program.  Inventory data is used to measure sustainability, economic development potential, bio-diversity, and other criteria on a statewide basis. The incumbent provides information and education programming to allow the transfer of this knowledge to landowners, industry, and other interested parties.

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry or a closely related field
  • Thorough knowledge in forest inventory methods
  • Specialized knowledge in forest management, forest mensuration, and silviculture
  • Specialized knowledge of botany and tree identification as it pertains to the forest environment
  • Specialized knowledge of computer operations including Microsoft Office and GIS software
  • Basic knowledge of land surveying
  • Ability to work independently and in solitude as well as with others
  • Ability to plan and conduct work with little supervision
  • Effective oral and written commination skills
