Forest Information Analyst (Environmental)

Position Description:  The Forest Information Analyst will join the project services team, which provides decision support services to our 700,000+ acres under contract management as well as various specialty projects for clients throughout the southeastern US and internationally. The primary responsibilities of the forest information analyst will be to assist in the collection, compilation, and analysis of forest biometric, spatial, and market data as well as any other activities deemed necessary by management of the company. Candidate will occasionally manage projects across the Southeast. Travel outside of the local area will be required approximately 20% of the time. Necessary travel costs to be reimbursed by the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Forest inventory project management including design, coordination/supervision of field personnel, QA/QC audits of field data, and compilation of results.
  • Contribute to harvest scheduling and growth & yield projects through the triage of incoming data, assistance with data processing, and evaluation of outputs.
  • Train and develop entry-level foresters and contractors in regards to field mensuration techniques.

Qualifications and Abilities: 

  • Required
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or related discipline with 5+ years of related experience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated personnel and project management skills
    • Understanding of inventory sample design, GIS applications, and growth & yield models
    • Strong computer and technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database applications
    • Ability to effectively plan and execute concurrent projects effectively
    • Must be capable of working in remote outdoor locations in various weather and forest conditions
  • Preferred
    • Strong statistical knowledge and skills
    • Experience with R or similar programming language
    • Experience with remote sensing software and technology
