FOREST ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS COORDINATOR 

EACOM is one of the major producers in the Eastern Canadian timber industry. Operations include the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of lumber and wood-based value-added products, and the management of forest resources. EACOM currently owns seven sawmills (5 in Ontario, 2 in Quebec), a remanufacturing facility (Quebec) and a partnership operation in an engineered I joist plant (Ontario) for a total of 800 employees.

EACOM has an immediate opening for a Forest Environmental Management Systems Coordinator.  The incumbent will report to the Coordinator, Forest planning, and will be accountable for the development and maintenance of environmental (ISO 14001), forest and chain-of-custody certification (FSC, SFI) programs in Ontario.  Location is flexible; may be based out of our offices at Nairn Centre or Timmins.

Job description : 

·         Assist the Coordinator, Forest planning in implementing corporate strategic forestry and operational practices.

·         Liaise with and assist EACOM’s forestry operations and harvesting partners in obtaining and maintaining environmental (ISO 14001) and forest certifications (FSC, SFI).

·         Monitor the effectiveness of the implementation of the forest environmental management systems.

·         Coordinate/lead internal and external audits. Liaise with and assist EACOM’s sawmill operations, sales department and other parties in the supply chain in obtaining and maintaining chain-of-custody certifications (FSC, SFI).

·         Liaise with certification organizations (FSC, SFI) and audit firms.

·         Assist the forest management planning group to sustainably manage company forests.

Requirements : 

·         Hold a Bachelor’s degree in forestry, environmental management or other equivalent areas of study.

·         Possess 2 to 5 years of relevant experience, with experience in forest management and / or chain-of-custody auditing or equivalent.

·         Possess excellent spoken & written English skills, functional French would be an asset.

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office.

·         Excellent knowledge of environmental and forest certification standards (i.e. FSC, SFI and ISO 14001).

·         Ability and willingness to travel regularly.
