The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Forest Service Branch, is currently seeking a proactive, self-directed, analytical individuals with a background in operational planning and forest operations, to fill the role of Forest Ecosystem Protection Technicians headquartered in Hudson Bay. 
 
Forests are essential to the long-term well-being of Saskatchewan's communities, economy and environment. Over half of Saskatchewan is forested, providing the province with a multitude of benefits. As stewards of the forest resource, the Government of Saskatchewan is committed to its sustainable management. As the Forest Ecosystem Protection Technician, you will be responsible for inspections of forest industry activities within the provincial Crown forest including road development, forest harvesting, forest renewal, and forest grazing activities. 
 
Under the guidance of the Area Forester you will complete and participate in the review of various industry plans for forest operations, silviculture, grazing, and other industrial developments. You will assist in the compliance assurance activities with the area teams of Forest Ecosystem Protection Specialists and Area Foresters.
 
You will also be expected to take an active role in consultation processes with First Nations/Métis (Duty to Consult), traditional resources users, local communities, and stakeholders (trappers, outfitters, grazers, recreational groups) in regard to activities occurring on Crown Land.  
 
You will have knowledge of principles of ecosystem-based forest management, environmental protection, forest operations including boreal forest silviculture, and operational planning.  The successful candidate will require effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with industry and provide compliance education opportunities as it relates to the regulations administered by the Forest Service Branch. 
 

Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a Forestry Technician program supplemented with related work experience. Candidates must be eligible for membership with the Association of Saskatchewan Forestry Professionals as an RPFT or Restricted member. 

 
This position will require travel to remote locations to conduct work activities, work irregular hours, conduct field evaluations, and operate trucks and all-terrain vehicles.
