Field Mechanic (Klamath Falls, OR)

POSITION PURPOSE

The Field Mechanic is responsible for the repair and maintenance of logging equipment to keep downtime to a minimum in order to keep up with production demands.  Equipment ranges in size from pickup trucks to swing yarders.  Repair work is performed at the shop or on-site in the woods regardless of weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)

The following is a list of general job responsibilities for the Field Mechanic position.  This list is not all-inclusive and may be broadened or changed to meet changing business needs. 

  • Understand and perform repairs on diesel, hydraulic, brake, air & hoist systems; drive trains; undercarriage
  • Understand and perform repairs on 12 to 24 volt electrical systems
  • Understand and perform repairs on swing yarders
  • Must be able to rebuild undercarriages – field rail repairs
  • Must have experience in welding and fabricating
  • Must have the knowledge and skills to work on all types of Logging and Chipping equipment
  • Must have the ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision
  • Wear all required safety equipment and comply with all safety rules and regulation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Minimum 5 years “hands on” experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Oregon State Driver’s License and Commercial Driver’s License
  • Trade School helpful – may be substituted for experience
  • Advanced welding fabrication skills
  • Understand and repair gasoline engines, newer style electronics, and fuel injection.
  • Advanced hydraulic pump / cylinder repair skills
  • 120 volt and larger electrical repair skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is located in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and work in tight spaced and around moving equipment, work in dark, dusty, and or high, windy environments.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Standing and/or walking consist of up to 90% of the workday.
  • Must maintain punctual and regular attendance at all times.
  • Requires the use of standard safety equipment in regulation with Oregon Operations.
  • This position is a Physical and Mental Requirement Classification 7.
